TUCSON TOUR JUNE 9, 10, 11, 2005
On Thursday at around four pm, 11 team members, and three mentors in two vans traveled to Tucson, Arizona for a tour of an arts center called Las Artes. It was a very full schedule, with every hour filled with a variety of activities. Below are a few photo moments caught .
TEAM STATEMENTS FROM THEIR EXPERIENCE OF THE TOUR
When we went to Tucson I got some kind of an idea of what our mural is going to look like when we finish. I learned about Las Artes and what they do and I hope that we can start a program like that in Las Cruces. Carla Deemer
Well some things I learned was how to trace pictures onto tile and then how to glaze the traces which was fun in a weird way. But besides that I also enjoyed the lovely murals down that poor deserted road I forgot what it was called but yeah… fun. The restaurants where fun and filling… don’t know what else to say… didn’t really do much but that’s not my fault. Simone Meacham
I was really impressed with the power and impact of this small program in South Tucson that was pretty much built up form scratch and was providing education for some unfortunate students as well as severely improving the aesthetics of the community. Spencer Taylor
Um...yeah, I realized how much pride this project will give the people of Mesquite. They will learn about their district and feel more about how much history they have. Neil Solberg
What I got out of the trip….I got that it takes time and effort. And in the end our work will reflect that in a community that needs it…. Michelle Rodriguez
Well I had a good time I liked when we went to the work shop. Now I can get busy and start on the work I think when were doing this we can get people into the m street people can see that teenagers are doing something so bye. David Carbajal
I had a really good time on this trip. It sort of inspired me to the best job I can because the tiles will be lasting and I believe that art can really affect people. By displaying our mural in a public place I think it could change the environment. Alicia McGuire
I really didn't get much out of it except for mostly bleakly staring out into
space mostly, but what I did learn is that this is a rare opportunity to be in
so I guess I'll stick to the end unless I get fired that is...*Slow Walter
Laugh* (inside joke). Toni Riebe
I liked this trip because it gave me an idea of all the possibilities. I had never known that making murals could be such a big business. I really liked the whole trip. It was mostly fun because we got to hang out with our friends and go out to eat. I also liked painting on the tiles. Nathan Tofsted
